Good Neighbors in Action: Solar at Lummi Nation School
At Ecotech Solar, our Good Neighbors value goes beyond words—it’s a guiding principle that calls us to show up, listen, and lend our expertise in ways that strengthen our community. One example of this commitment is our ongoing collaboration with the Lummi Nation.
In 2019, following several community-led solar meetings with Lummi Nation members—and with the support of Spark Northwest—we were invited to conduct feasibility studies for solar installations on six tribal community buildings. These studies laid the groundwork for successful grant applications that brought solar to four of those sites.
One of the standout projects was the Lummi Nation School, which received funding through Puget Sound Energy’s Green Power solar grant program. Ecotech Solar was honored to install the 51 kW solar array, a system that not only reduces energy costs but also powers education—literally. The array serves as a hands-on learning tool for students in the school’s STEM program, helping inspire and prepare the next generation of clean energy leaders.
To ensure long-term success, our team conducted on-site operations and maintenance training with Lummi Nation staff. We also helped celebrate the project’s completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by tribal leaders, PSE staff, school administrators, and community members, complete with a tour of the new solar system.
We’re grateful to play a small part in a much larger vision—one led by the Lummi Nation and rooted in sustainability.
